South Sudan: EAC Begins Political Confederation Consultations

A high-level delegation from the East African Community (EAC), led by Secretary-General Ambassador Stephen Patrick Mbundi and senior constitutional expert Amos Wako, arrived in South Sudan on Wednesday to initiate national consultations regarding the country's political transition and a proposed EAC Political Confederation. These consultations, beginning with the central government and expanding to various states and stakeholders, aim to gather views on critical political and constitutional issues that will shape the future regional arrangement. The process is designed to be inclusive, involving representatives from government, political parties, civil society, academia, community leaders, and youth organisations, with discussions covering constitutional arrangements, funding mechanisms, governance structures, decision-making processes, and models of regional integration.
