Togo Sets 2026-2027 Coffee, Cocoa Producer Prices

Togo will begin its 2026-2027 coffee and cocoa marketing season on October 1. Producer prices have been set at CFAF 1,300 per kilogram for coffee and CFAF 2,240 for cocoa, after exports fell during the previous season. According to authorities, the price adjustment is aimed at improving producers' incomes while supporting a sector exposed to sharp swings in global prices. A Reversal After a Record Year The 2025-2026 season ended with about 2,600 tons of coffee exported, down from 4,400 tons a year earlier. Cocoa exports fell to 8,900 tons from 24,000 tons over the same period. The decline contrasts with the strong results seen in 2024. That year, cocoa exports generated CFAF 54.1 billion, compared with CFAF 16.7 billion in 2023, helping lift Togo's agricultural export earnings to CFAF 176.2 billion, their highest level between 2020 and 2024. The increase was driven by a surge in global prices, which later fell in 2025 and 2026. Farmgate prices show how sharply conditions changed. In early 2025, the farmgate price of cocoa had dropped to CFAF 2,240 per kilogram after peaking at CFAF 5,525 at the height of the global price rally. Coffee producers were receiving CFAF 200 per kilogram, down from about CFAF 600 a few months earlier, raising concern among producers and industry operators.
