Egypt PM Reviews Digital Transformation, Telecom Infrastructure Projects

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly reviewed developments in several information technology, telecommunications infrastructure, and digital transformation projects during a meeting on Sunday. The meeting covered efforts to develop Egypt’s telecommunications infrastructure, expand digital government services, support technology startups, and promote artificial intelligence applications. Communications and Information Technology Minister Raafat Hindy said Telecom Egypt is expanding the replacement of copper cables with fibre-optic networks across Egypt, including in villages covered by the presidential Decent Life initiative, to provide high-speed internet services. Hindy also highlighted efforts to strengthen Egypt’s international digital infrastructure and leverage its strategic location and submarine cable network. He said the ministry is preparing a national strategy for data centres to expand their presence and capabilities in Egypt. The Egypt Digital platform currently offers more than 240 government services through 29 service packages, with the ministry targeting 400 services by 2030, Hindi said. He added that the ministry is supporting technology startups through Egypt Digital Innovation Centres, Creativa, which provide capacity-building, incubation, and investor-linkage programmes. Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said the telecommunications and information technology sector has significant opportunities for growth and expansion in foreign markets, noting that the government is focusing on improving spending efficiency and directing resources toward vital sectors, particularly telecommunications. Madbouly stressed the sector’s growing role in economic growth and sustainable development, while highlighting President Abdel Fattah Sisi’s directives to develop Egypt’s telecommunications market and expand digital transformation opportunities.
