Centre Exempts Isobgul/Isobgol (Psyllium Seeds) From GST From 1 November 2026

On 27 October 2026, the Central Government, has, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest and on the recommendations of the GST Council, exempted supplies of Psyllium seeds (Isobgul/Isobgol) from Central Tax, Integrated Tax and Union Territory Tax: Central Tax leviable under Section 9 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 . The Central Government is empowered under Section 11(1) of the Act to grant exemptions from tax. Integrated Tax leviable under Section 5 of the Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 . The Central Government is empowered under Section 6(1) of the Act to grant exemptions from tax. Union Territory Tax leviable under Section 7 of the Union Territory Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 . The Central Government is empowered under Section 8(1) of the Act to grant exemptions from tax. These notifications shall come into force on 1 November 2026. Psyllium seeds (Isobgul/Isobgol) are the primary raw material used in the manufacture of various laxatives and dietary fibre products that are widely consumed by the public.

Lawyers and compliance officers advising clients in the pharmaceutical, health, or agricultural sectors (specifically those dealing with psyllium seeds or related products) must update their tax compliance strategies and financial models to reflect the GST exemption effective November 1, 2026, potentially leading to cost savings or altered pricing structures.
