
Cameroon Redirects Salaries of 5,971 Public Workers Suspected Abroad
Cameroon has redirected the September and October 2026 salaries of 5,971 public employees suspected of still living abroad, as the government extends its efforts to remove ineligible workers from the state payroll. The employees must now prove their administrative status before they can receive their pay and avoid eventual suspension from the payroll. Finance Minister Louis Paul Motazé announced the measure in a statement signed on September 15. Instead of following the usual payment process, the salaries will be transferred to the Yaoundé I Treasury Pay Office while authorities verify the employees’ status. According to the Finance Ministry, the 5,971 workers were identified after authorities reviewed data on cross-border movements and clarifications provided by their respective government departments.
