Cameroon: New Platform "Cameroon Memoria" to Improve Death Registration

On August 26, 2026, in Yaoundé, Cameroon, the digital platform "Cameroon Memoria" was presented, aiming to improve the registration of deaths and transform them into exploitable vital data. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSANTE) and the National Civil Status Bureau (BUNEC) in collaboration with 2B Memoria SARL, seeks to address the persistent challenge of unregistered deaths, particularly those occurring in communities or passing through morgues without official capture by MINSANTE's DHIS2 system. The platform's objective is to comprehensively document, record, and integrate these deaths into appropriate systems, thereby enhancing the completeness and quality of vital statistics available in the country. Discussions are currently underway to finalize a protocol agreement and integrate the platform with existing national systems, including plans to equip morgues and municipal cemeteries with necessary registration devices and provide training to relevant personnel.
