Ici leurs déclarations : STATEMENT OF FONS AND CHIEFS OF WABANE SUB-DIVISION ON UP-COMING MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS A call for change of Leadership at the head of the WABANE COUNCIL The Fons and Chiefs of Wabane Subdivision in the South-West Region have publicly expressed their desire for change in the position of Mayor of the Wabane Council following the completion of three mandates of leadership as Mayor by MR NEMBO KETU Israel. According to the Fons and Chiefs, they are speaking as traditional authorities and as representatives of the concerns expressed by grassroots population of Wabane in their respective Chiefdoms and Fondoms. They say they have reached a point where they believe a new direction is necessary for the council and its people due to wide mis management, embezzlement and abandoned projects They maintain that, after many years under the same council leadership, the People of Wabane have not benefited sufficiently from the council’s resources and development opportunities placed at their communities’ disposal from the annual public investissement budget and special decentralization grants from the State. Among the issues raised by the Fons and Chiefs are concerns about several projects that they constantly reported as completed but, in actual fact , have little or nothing visible on the ground while the cost is completely paid for no wirk done. They have also questioned the council over equipment, including a caterpillar reportedly purchased for the council area including lack of an equipment pool for an enclaved area like Wabane. The traditional leaders say they have repeatedly asked their Mayor to present the machine and explain its whereabouts and use, particularly because, according to them, it could not enter some villages. The Fons and Chiefs further point to public dissatisfaction expressed during the presidential election period, when, according to their account, some residents protested over what they considered poor services and inadequate development in the municipality. In an effort to make their position known through the appropriate channels, representatives of the traditional authorities have also met with Minister Paul Tasong, described as the political leader of Lebialem The traditional authorities have also forwarded their petition to the highest party authorities, asking that their concerns be heard and considered in decisions concerning the future leadership of the Wabane Council. The Fons and Chiefs say their position reflects what they describe as the voice of the people and the wishes of their populations. They are calling for a new a complete overhaule in the executive of that council, arguing that the people of Wabane have endured years of what they consider inadequate development and services. They therefore appeal to the relevant State and Party Authorities to carefully examine their concerns, listen to the cry of the militants concerned, and take appropriate action in accordance with the law and the interests of the people of Wabane. The Fons and Chiefs maintain that their objective is not confrontation, but accountability, development, peace, and leadership that responds effectively to the needs and aspirations of the people of Wabane. They have emphasised that any group of People that will be paid to destort these facts will meet with stiff resistance from the population. Soyez le premier à comm
