Togo Government Raises Fuel Prices; Gasoline Reaches CFAF 817

The Togolese government raised retail fuel prices effective Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, with unleaded gasoline increasing to CFAF 817 per liter from CFAF 725 under the previous price schedule introduced in May. Diesel was set at CFAF 766 per liter, up from CFAF 750. Two-stroke fuel increased to CFAF 896 from CFAF 811. Kerosene rose slightly to CFAF 1,056 per liter from CFAF 1,040. Gasoline rose CFAF 92 per liter, or 12.7%, while diesel increased CFAF 16, or 2.1%. The new price schedule comes just over three months after the one that took effect on May 27, when gasoline rose from CFAF 680 to CFAF 725 and diesel from CFAF 695 to CFAF 750. Hormuz Shock Keeps Oil Prices Elevated The revision comes as oil markets face renewed upward pressure. After rising above $100 a barrel in September, Brent crude traded at around $106 on Thursday, Sept. 10, amid tensions in the Middle East and increased risks around shipping routes in the Gulf and the Red Sea. About 20% of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. Since the conflict began in February, Brent has risen from about $70 a barrel to a peak of $126 in March. Price pressures are also building across the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). According to the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), inflation rose from 0.4% in the second quarter to 1.2% in July and then 1.7% in August 2026.
