Pennsylvania Supreme Court Suspends Lawyer After Coin Theft Conviction

(Image from Shutterstock) The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has suspended a lawyer who was convicted earlier this year for stealing $1.6 million worth of valuable coins from a safe-deposit box. The state supreme court on Monday ordered lawyer Richard Di Stefano of Philadelphia to receive a temporary suspension. He can petition to dissolve the suspension in the future. Di Stefano admitted to stealing the coins after the FBI searched his home in 2024. The investigation showed that he had removed the coins from the safe-deposit box over the course of several years and sold the coins at various auction houses. Prosecutors said the coins belonged to a historic society of which Di Stefano was a member. He was sentenced in May by U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Savage of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania to one day in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release and $1.6 million in restitution. Legal Newsline also has coverage.
