Mozambique Ministry of Health Introduces Medicine Traceability Seals

Mozambique's Ministry of Health (MISAU) recently launched a new traceability seal for medicines and medical supplies in Maputo to combat theft and diversion within the National Health Service (SNS). This significant development was unveiled on Monday at the Central Medical Stores (CMAM) during the official receipt of a substantial 35-million-US-dollar shipment of pharmaceuticals and medical-surgical items, half of which was funded by the World Bank. Health Minister Ussene Isse emphasized that this security mechanism is crucial for tracking products, ensuring they reach patients directly, and accelerating medical procedures, highlighting that few other African nations possess such advanced traceability capabilities. The initiative aims to address national shortages by securing the supply chain, with additional kits and supplies expected to follow for distribution across health facilities nationwide.
