Malawi Groups Plan National Dialogue on President Mutharika's 1st Year

A powerful coalition of civil society and professional organisations in Malawi, including the Malawi Law Society, is preparing to hold a major national dialogue on October 20, 2026, in Lilongwe, to assess President Peter Mutharika's first year in office, focusing on democratic governance, rule of law, anti-corruption, human rights, civic space, and public service delivery. This significant event, spearheaded by a consortium that reads like a who's who of Malawi's civil society, aims to put the administration's performance under the spotlight at the Bingu International Convention Centre, bringing together a broad spectrum of stakeholders including government, Parliament, the Judiciary, academia, the private sector, and media for a day of reckoning over the President's leadership. The initiative underscores a robust exercise of civic oversight, with the Youth and Society (YAS) Executive Director Charles Kajoloweka having personally delivered a formal invitation to the Chief Secretary to the Government, Justin Saidi, urging government participation in these crucial discussions.
