Following the exchange, some of the suspects managed to flee the scene. However, an subsequent exploitation of the area by the troops led to the capture of the four individuals. Evidence, including blood traces discovered at the site, suggested that some of the escaping suspects might have sustained injuries during the confrontation. Among the items recovered from the scene were four bicycles, various groceries, a single sheep, and expended 7.62mm special ammunition cases.

Captain Mohammed Goni, who serves as the Acting Military Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed these developments in a statement released on Tuesday. The arrested suspects and all recovered items have been taken into custody, pending further investigation, while military operations continue in the region.

The apprehension of the four suspected terrorists forms part of a broader series of successful operations undertaken by the Joint Task Force during the specified period. Beyond these arrests, the sustained efforts between September 15 and 22, 2026, also led to the voluntary surrender of eleven other individuals suspected of terrorist affiliations.

In a separate but related operation, troops from the same brigade conducted a routine patrol on September 19 in Buni Yadi, also located within Gujba Local Government Area. This patrol resulted in the arrest of nine suspected drug dealers. These individuals were found in possession of suspected illicit drugs, including cannabis, along with two mobile phones and N85,900 in cash.

Cumulatively, the operational successes achieved during this week-long period extended to the recovery of significant assets. These included a vehicle, various ammunition, and other crucial logistics items, further disrupting the capabilities of criminal elements in the region.

The military has articulated that these operations are strategically designed to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks operating across the Joint Operations Area.
