Delhi HC Moots De-Registration of ISPs for Failing to Remove Porn Material on Jaya Bachchan

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to take instructions on de-registering Internet Service Providers (ISPs) which have failed to remove pornographic content misusing actor and politician Jaya Bachchan's name.Justice Jyoti Singh was informed by Bachchan's counsel that the objectionable content remained accessible despite the Court's earlier ex parte order dated November 10, 2025, directing MEITY and DoT to block such webpages. The counsel submitted that ISPs had not complied with the directions.MEITY and DoT told the Court that the ISPs were not enforcing the order.Expressing concern over the continued non-compliance, the Court remarked that the ISPs were neither enforcing court orders nor responding to directions, and suggested examining whether such ISPs could be de-registered. Justice Jyoti Singh"The ISPs are not enforcing the court orders, they are not even listening to your directions. We need to see if they can be de-registered, then they shall be. They are not hearing, so we have to see what next. If it happens in one case, then it will be a deterrent in others," the Court observed.Justice Singh added that the issue raised was concerning given the nature of the content involved.
