Cameroon Secures CFA8.7 Billion EU Funding for Maritime Patrol, Air Surveillance

Two tenders launched in Spain under a European Union-funded program provide for CFA8.73 billion (€13.314 million) to strengthen Cameroon’s maritime surveillance and patrol capabilities in the Gulf of Guinea. The procedures, managed by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIAP), cover an aerial surveillance service and the construction of a light patrol vessel for the Cameroon Navy. The first contract, referenced SPD-2026-036, covers maritime surveillance services through a crewed and equipped aircraft. It has an estimated value of €9.228 million before tax, or about CFA6.05 billion, and a duration of 18 months. The deadline for bids was August 18, 2026, with their opening scheduled for September 4. As of September 22, the European public documents reviewed did not identify a successful bidder or a final contract amount. The contract does not involve Cameroon’s acquisition of an aircraft. The selected provider must supply the aircraft, equipment and personnel required for the surveillance mission.
