Cameroon, IMF Discuss Economic Outlook Under Article IV Surveillance

An International Monetary Fund mission is in Cameroon for talks on the country’s economic outlook, public finances and debt, the Ministry of Finance said after a meeting in Yaounde on Thursday, September 17. Finance Minister Louis Paul Motazé met the delegation, led by IMF mission chief Christine Dieterich, to discuss recent economic developments and the government’s planned budget priorities. The ministry said the visit forms part of the IMF’s regular dialogue and economic surveillance of member economies under Article IV of its Articles of Agreement. It follows the completion of Cameroon’s 2021-2025 IMF-supported economic program in July 2025. The current talks are therefore not a program review tied to the release of funds, the ministry said. The discussions covered macroeconomic prospects, the state of public finances and debt sustainability. According to the ministry, the two sides also reviewed the results of their earlier cooperation and examined challenges that remain.
