According to Mr. Andrei Kloeinov, a representative from Belarus and marketing director for Bison Agro Machinery, over 90 RDCs and town councils have received the Red Lion fire tenders, which are capable of carrying 5,000 litres of water and drawing from external sources like rivers and lakes. The vehicles also come equipped with foam-forming agents and water guns that can project water to considerable heights under pressure.

The new equipment is expected to address the longstanding challenges faced by local authorities, particularly those with inadequate resources to deal with serious fires. Epworth Local Board town secretary Dr. Wilton Mhanda expressed gratitude for the intervention, stating that the new equipment would help alleviate the burden of dealing with limited or ageing firefighting resources. The Red Lion fire tenders are being deployed beyond conventional firefighting duties, attending not only fires but also serious car accidents. This development may require local authorities to review and update their emergency response plans, potentially leading to new compliance obligations or filing requirements related to fire safety and prevention.

In addition to the equipment rollout and training programme, Belarus has indicated its readiness to support Zimbabwe with additional firefighting technologies.
