Abyei Prison Break: 11 Inmates Escape, 4 Recaptured

Eleven Sudanese Misseriya prisoners escaped from the Amiet Prison in the Abyei Administrative Area on Saturday last week, with authorities confirming that four of the escapees were recaptured the same day and the rest are being pursued. Yohana Akol, the Abyei Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the Misseriya Peace Committee has taken responsibility to ensure that the other seven escapees are found and taken back to prison. “The Sudanese Misseriya prisoners escaped from the Amiet Prison two days ago (Saturday), according to the local authorities in the Amiet area,” he said. “They were eleven in number, but four of them were arrested, and efforts are underway to bring back the other escapees to the prison because the Misseriya Peace Committee has taken the responsibility.” “They were charged with committing crimes like theft, injury, and other minor crimes,” minister Akol added.
