Zimbabwe Parliament: Mnangagwa to Open 4th Session, Deliver SONA

President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe is scheduled to officially open the Fourth Session of the 10th Parliament and deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, at 2pm, an event formally announced via General Notice 1866 of 2026 by Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda. This significant parliamentary event will involve a joint sitting of the Senate and National Assembly, where the President will outline the government's legislative programme for the new session in terms of Section 140(1) of the Constitution. Concurrently, he will deliver the State of the Nation Address, as mandated by Section 140(4) of the Constitution, setting the tone for the government's policy direction and legislative priorities for the upcoming period. The SONA is expected to provide an update on national developments and highlight key government priorities as the country pursues its development agenda, with Parliament subsequently tasked with considering Bills arising from this agenda and continuing its constitutional oversight role.
