Zambia Speaker Swears In 40 Proportional Representation MPs

Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti in Zambia recently swore in 40 Members of Parliament (MPs) elected under the Mixed Member Proportional Representation system at the National Assembly Chamber in Lusaka. This formal ceremony integrated the new legislators into the country's parliamentary structure, marking a significant step in the operationalisation of this electoral mechanism. The newly sworn-in MPs represent a diverse cross-section of society, comprising 20 women, 15 youths, and five persons with disabilities, highlighting a deliberate effort towards inclusive representation within the legislative body.
