Additionally, stevedores from Durban and Gqeberha will be brought in to support operations when needed. This move aims to make up for lost time during brief operational windows and prevent severe export bottlenecks.

The proposed joint operational war room is a significant shift from Transnet's internal focus, as it will manage data visibility and performance across producers, agents, storage facilities, and carriers. This new framework establishes a port community of practice, where private freight agents and shipping lines are working together to develop an AI-backed IT system across the value chain. The long-term plan is to deploy this system during August and September, with stakeholders finalising baseline information-sharing protocols among competing commercial players.
