Mozambique: Ressano Garcia Border Post Rehabilitation Budgeted at MZN 980 Million
Maputo — The Mozambican Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, on Monday laid the first stone for the rehabilitation of Ressano Garcia One-Stop Border Post, which is budgeted at 980 million meticais (14.9 million dollars at the current exchange rate). The infrastructure, which includes the modernization of Freight Road Terminal and the Express Lanes, is a main land gateway connecting Mozambique and South Africa. It is believed that the project will reduce logistics costs and improve the movement of people and goods between the two countries. "The efficiency of this infrastructure has a direct impact on regional trade, supply chains, the competitiveness of the productive sector, tax revenue collection and the performance of the Port of Maputo", the minister said. The border post is also expected to ease the traffic along the National Road Number 04 (EN4), bringing a positive impact on road safety, fuel consumption, delivery times and companies' operating costs.
