KSLSA: Bengaluru Anti-Trafficking Awareness Programme Educates Vulnerable Women

The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) has been at the forefront of combating human trafficking and cyber-enabled exploitation in India. In a recent initiative, the KSLSA partnered with Alliance University's Legal Services Clinic and Maarga to organize an anti-trafficking awareness programme on July 30th. The event was held at Dr BR Ambedkar Samudhaya Bhavan in Rajendra Nagar slum, which is home to nearly 100 participants from LR Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, and Ambedkar Nagar within the Audugodi Police Station limits. This gathering of women, predominantly, aimed to educate them on the dangers of human trafficking, cyber-enabled exploitation, child marriage, and the legal protections available for vulnerable communities.

The KSLSA's emphasis on free legal consultation and aid through the District Legal Services Authority is a crucial aspect of their anti-trafficking efforts. This initiative ensures that individuals from marginalized sections, including women, children, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and economically weaker sections, have access to justice. Shridhara M, Senior Civil Judge and Deputy Secretary of KSLSA, highlighted the importance of legal services in preventing human trafficking. He noted that trafficking has evolved beyond sexual exploitation, encompassing bonded labour, forced labour, and organ trafficking. The misuse of social media for online grooming, deepfakes, and financial fraud is also a significant concern.
