Jammu & Kashmir High Court’s Third Bench to Come Up in Ladakh

On 20 August 2026, the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi approved the sitting of a bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in Ladakh , a move aimed at improving access to justice for residents of the Union Territory. Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah stated: “The Union Cabinet under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India took a historic decision enabling sitting of bench of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in Ladakh. This will significantly enhance access to justice for citizens living in remote areas of Ladakh by reducing the time required to avail themselves of the legal services they are entitled to. The Government is fully committed to the all-round development of Ladakh and to ensuring constitutional safeguards.” The Cabinet’s decision to allow a High Court bench in Ladakh aims to improve access to justice for people in the region and reflects the Government’s commitment to Ladakh’s development and constitutional safeguards.
