Cameroon: Thermosun, IRGM Sign Framework for Waste-to-Energy Project

On September 10, 2026, Thermosun Cameroon and the Institute for Geological and Mining Research (IRGM) signed a framework agreement in Cameroon to advance a waste-to-energy project valued at over CFAF500 billion. This significant development sees IRGM, a public scientific and technical research institution, joining the project to provide crucial research and technical support. Their contributions will encompass waste characterization, energy and environmental studies, technology transfer, and training. The project, which builds on an earlier Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Cameroonian government on March 12, 2026, aims to process an estimated 1,866 tons of municipal waste daily, generate approximately 305 MW of energy capacity, and produce hydrogen and other valuable by-products from treated waste across Yaoundé, Douala, and Ebolowa.
