Cameroon Customs Expands Crackdown on Illegal Trade, Smuggling

Cameroon’s Directorate General of Customs has extended its campaign against fraud and smuggling to Kribi and Campo, targeting illegal supply chains that deprive the state of customs revenue and expose registered businesses to unfair competition. The latest phase of the campaign was held on September 4, 2026, at the MIOD Tower in Kribi. It brought together officials from the South II Customs Sector and economic operators from Kribi and Campo. According to information published by the Directorate General of Customs, the session focused on fraud and the smuggling of drinks and frozen products. It examined the effects of illegal trade on local businesses, public revenue and consumer health. The meeting was chaired by Commander Félix Ekolle, head of the national awareness campaign. Armelle Assengue, head of the South II Customs Sector, received participants and outlined plans to strengthen cooperation between customs officials and businesses operating through legal distribution channels.
