Welcoming the delegation, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Technical Operations at the NCA, Mr. Salifu Suleman, highlighted Ghana’s strategic position and its youthful population as important strengths in the country’s continued digital development. A key focus of the engagement was Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the importance of creating a regulatory environment that supports innovation while providing clear rules and regulatory oversight. Mr. Suleman highlighted the NCA’s work towards a consultative approach to AI, noting that this would further strengthen the Authority’s efforts to remain at the forefront of regulation while striking the right balance between innovation and regulatory responsibility. He also underscored the importance of having clear regulatory mandates and rules while creating sufficient space for innovation as emerging technologies continue to evolve. Both sides also shared experiences on the use of AI within their respective institutions. Mr. Suleman indicated that AI is increasingly becoming an integral tool in the NCA’s processes and activities as the Authority explores opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen its regulatory functions. The engagement also touched on Ghana’s broader AI strategy, particularly the need for the adoption and development of AI to reflect local culture and values and contribute to their preservation. The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange perspectives on emerging technologies and regulatory approaches, while exploring opportunities for stronger collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
