The development of the Draft National STEM Transformation Strategy was a collaborative effort involving a committee inaugurated on February 25, 2026, with support from the Agence Française de Développement's (AFD) Blueprint ICT-Dev Project. This partnership has provided a much-needed boost to Nigeria's higher education sector, which is now poised to align with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda, the National Development Plan, and the African Union's Agenda 2063. The strategy also addresses research commercialization, quality assurance, and sustainable financing, ensuring that Nigerian universities are equipped to drive scientific discovery, stimulate industrial innovation, and secure Nigeria's place among the world's leading knowledge economies.

The Draft National STEM Transformation Strategy provides a 10-year roadmap for achieving its ambitious goals. It also addresses research commercialization, quality assurance, and sustainable financing, ensuring that Nigerian universities are equipped to drive scientific discovery, stimulate industrial innovation, and secure Nigeria's place among the world's leading knowledge economies. By 2036, Nigerian universities will be repositioned as globally competitive centres of excellence for innovation, research, university-industry collaboration, and sustainable national development.
