NCA Intensifies Public Education on Telecommunications Masts in the Eastern Region
Koforidua, September 4, 2026 The National Communications Authority (NCA) has intensified public education across the Eastern Region following public concerns over the construction of a telecommunications mast at the Koforidua-Kumasi Lorry Station. As part of the exercise, the Authority engaged traders, transport operators and commuters at the Koforidua Central Market, including the Dwakeseɛ Mu and Dwaketewa Mu sections, to provide factual information on telecommunications masts and towers, address public concerns and highlight the critical role these installations play in delivering reliable communications services. The team at the market information centre and the transport terminal Beyond the one-on-one engagements, the team also leveraged selected information centres within the market and undertook radio sensitisation programmes on selected stations in Koforidua, extending the campaigns reach to a wider audience. Radio discussions by the team The team, again, extended the public education campaign to Adawso, where it took advantage of the communitys market day to engage traders, residents and visitors. During the engagements, participants were informed that telecommunications masts operate within internationally accepted radio frequency exposure limits and that their deployment is governed by prescribed regulatory, technical, structural, environmental and safety requirements. The Authority also underscored the importance of telecommunications infrastructure in supporting quality voice and data services, emergency communications, broadcasting, digital financial services and other essential services that drive socio-economic development. One-on-one engagements with transport operators in the market Officials encouraged the public to seek information from credible and authoritative sources whenever they have concerns about telecommunications infrastructure and services, and assured them that the NCA will continue to engage communities through sustained public education and awareness programmes to promote informed decision-making and a better understanding of communications technologies. As Ghanas communications regulator, the NCA remains committed to upholding the highest standards in the licensing, deployment and oversight of telecommunications infrastructure and services while fostering public confidence through transparency, stakeholder engagement and sustained consumer education.
