EEA launches 2026 photo competition — Resilient by Nature

That is the key theme of this year’s European Environment Agency (EEA) 2026 photo competition ‘Resilient by Nature’ launched today, which invites citizens across Europe to capture the many ways nature sustains life, responds to pressures and recovers in a changing world. Open for submissions from 18 May to 10 August 2026 , the competition encourages photography enthusiasts to explore the special relationship we have with nature. Participants can submit up to five photographs showcasing how ecosystems function, how they are disrupted, and how they are being restored. The competition is open to adults from EEA member and cooperating countries and is free to enter. Winners in each category will receive a cash prize, along with additional awards for public choice and youth prize. This year’s edition features three categories that aims to present a comprehensive picture of nature’s resilience: 1. Harmony focuses on the hidden connections and processes that keep ecosystems functioning, from pollination and migration to natural patterns and interactions. 2. Disruption captures moments when natural systems are under stress, including extreme weather events, pollution or other human impacts. 3. Renewal highlights recovery and adaptation, showcasing restoration efforts, nature-based solutions and community actions that help ecosystems regain balance.
