Central Bank of Liberia Cuts Monetary Policy Rate to 16%
The CBL has announced a reduction in its Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) by twenty-five basis points to 16 percent following its meeting on 15th July 2026. The recognition comes as Governor Saamoi continues to champion stronger African collaboration in shaping global financial policies and accelerating reforms needed to attract greater volumes of international capital to the continent. Liberia has been accorded the honor of chairing both the AFRITAC West 2 Steering Committee and the African Training Institute (ATI) Steering Committee for the period July 2026 to June 2027. “More than 60 percent of Liberia’s population is under the age of 35, making our youth not only a demographic reality but a decisive economic force." The Committees discussion was guided by its mandate to preserve price stability, safeguard exchange rate stability, maintain financial system resilience, and support domestic economic growth.
