CAAB Celebrates Success Of Race For Rhinos 2026

02 July 2026, Mosu, Makagadikgadi Pans : The Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) this past weekend was a proud participant in the Race for Rhinos event in Mosu, Makgadikgadi Pans between the 26 th -29 th June 2026. The event was officiated by its Patron, Former President of Botswana Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama. This year’s edition of Race for Rhinos was an especially momentous occasion as it marked the return of the annual event since 2019. It was attended by key Government officials including Assistant Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Hon. Keoagile Atamelang’s , as well as former Vice President , Slumber Tsogwane. Race for Rhinos is a unique platform that combines aviation, tourism, and wildlife conservation. One of the primary goals of this years edition was to raise funds to establish a new conservation site in the Makgadikgadi Wetland System. This site will facilitate the relocation of 13 white rhinos donated to Botswana by South Africa. The initiative also aims to expand economic opportunities for villages around Makgadikgadi while protecting the pans. CAAB supported the event by providing essential aviation services. These included Air Transport coordination , Flight Safety, Aviation Standards and Safety Oversight, as well as Air Traffic Control. The Authoritys involvement helped ensure that all aviation operations during the event complied with national and international safety standards. By supporting events such as Race for Rhinos, the Authority not only fulfills its mandate of ensuring safe, secure, and efficient aviation operations but also contributes to projects that have a positive impact on Botswanas economy and conservation efforts.
