San Diego inmates settle with city

SAN DIEGO — A federal court in California granted final approval to a settlement between San Diego and a class of inmates who say they were denied proper mental healthcare treatment while held in the city’s jails, which they say has resulted in abnormally high inmate death rates. The settlements states San Diego will improve its mental health services for inmates, provide more timely referrals to clinicians, implement more kinds of treatment plans and improve training for jail staff.
